Question
What is new in Domino 8.5.2 for DAOS?
Answer
There have been many improvements in Domino 8.5.2 for DAOS. The improvements are aimed at helping to keep the DAOS catalog in SYNCHRONIZED state, as well as reducing the impact of a resync if one is needed.
Resync performance improvements:
- multi threaded resync – gathers information much faster than before
- improved NSF scan – reduces the time that individual NSF files are locked
- improved NLO scan – streamlines the information gathered about NLO files
Resync operational improvements:
- improved lock usage – much more tolerant of other server traffic
- restartable resync – designed to allow scheduling resync to progress during off-hour time windows
- focus on large deployments – improved operation with large numbers of NSF and NLO files
- parallel catalog data – leaves old information in place while it builds new information to maximize availability
- minimal resync (“QUICK”) – reduces time to first availability recovering from deleted/damaged DAOS catalog
DAOS operational improvements:
- added tolerance for many situations that used to cause the DAOS catalog to go to Needs Resync state:
- restore operations
- database deletion outside of Domino
- return of offline NSF file system
- newly discovered DAOS NSF files are adopted
- improved diagnostics – DDM event includes more information to help with determining root cause of catalog state changes
- file existence tests streamlined to greatly reduce overhead
- improved DAOS status output
